English News : Two battalions deployed to Tarakan

National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri said that two battalions, each from the police mobile brigade and the Indonesian Military (TNI), have been deployed to Tarakan, East Kalimantan, in which a riot just broke out.

“We will also coordinate with some society leaders there so that they can ensure the people there to not get emotional with one another,” Bambang told reporters at the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“We do not need any more violence,” he added.

Bambang added that the riot broke out due to a trivial conflict.

“It was because of a bullying,” he said.

A riot broke out in Tarakan on Monday after a man coming from the Tidung tribe was allegedly beaten by a group of men of the Bugis tribe.
